Fayose Order Immediate Reversal Of EKSU Late Registration Fees

Governor Fayose, has order the immediate reversal of the late registration fees charged by the management of the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU).

Students of the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU), yesterday, took to the streets to protest increase in the late registration fees charged by the management of the institution, following the closure of its online portal.

The students were peeved when the management began to charge students additional N5,000 penalty for late payment, while they had already been made to pay N5,000 for the same offence; bringing the total for late payment penalty to N10,000.

The students, who closed the gates to the institution, carried placards with different inscriptions and green leaves as they marched to the town and demanded to meet with Governor Ayodele Fayose.

According to some of them, they were also protesting epileptic power supply in both the university campus, their hostels in Iworoko-Ekiti, “entrepreneur fee of N5000” and also demanded the removal of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Patrick Oladipo Aina.

Attempts by the students to march to the Governor’s Office was, however, foiled by security men, led by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Taiwo Lakanu.

They, however, regrouped at Christ School, Ado Ekiti, where Governor Fayose addressed them.

Governor Fayose, while addressing the students, announced the immediate reversal of the late registration fee.

Fayose said: “We must have a start and closing date for registration. The university must be run outside of politics. If you remove the vice chancellor, you are sending the university backwards. The government must not interfere with the running of the school. The vice chancellor is tenure-bound and we must allow the system to run its course.”

On the issue of power outage, the governor said “the state government was not in charge of electricity, but advised them to discuss with their landlords on the payment of their electricity bills, because the electricity company said people don’t pay their electricity bills.”
