The federal government has conclude all necessary arrangement to
introduce free feeding in Almajiri Integrated Schools (AIS) across the
country.
Minister/Deputy Chairman of the National Planning
Commission (NPC), Dr. Abubakar Sulaiman, made this know at a
stakeholders roundtable on milestone achievements of the programme in
yesterday Abuja.
Dr. Sulaiman said the Almajiri school system,
with 127 schools across the federation, is facing some challenges of
retention and sustainability and the free feeding programme is an
initiative designed to mitigate the challenges.
Minister of
Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, represented by the Deputy Director of
Planning at the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Amalaha Okezie, said
that out of 125 Almajiri schools built by the federal government, 89
have been handed over to 27 states and the FCT.
