Professor Ibrahim Garba has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
Chairman
of the Governing Council of the institution, Arc Muhammad Dewu who made
the announcement yesterday said Professor Garba emerged the new VC
after what he called rigorous and transparent selection process.
According
to him, following a two-day interview conducted by a panel set up by
the council, Professor Garba emerged the first out of the 24 professors
that contested the top job of ABU.
The new VC would take over the
affairs of the university in April this year when the tenure of the
incumbent VC, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha, would come to an end.
Born
on February 25, 1957 in Riruwai, Doguwa local government area of Kano
state, Professor Garba had his first and second degrees at ABU between
1980 and 1985. He earned his Ph.D at the University of London in 1993.
Aside
the various positions he had held at federal and states ministries,
Professor Garba has served as the Vice Chancellor of the Kano State
University of Science and Technology, Wudil. He has also served as head
of department of the ABU’s Department of Geology, among many other
positions.
He has to his credit numerous papers in local and international journals, apart from other publications.
