Academic activities were yesterday paralyzed at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede as the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics at the institution, has begun a ‘sit in’ industrial action to protest the non-implementation of Consolidated Tertiary Institution Salary Structure for its members in the institution.
The Chairman of ASUP, Osun State, Mr. Adeyemi Komolafe, and the Vice Chairman of the union, Mr. Kayode Azeez, said this in separate interviews with our correspondent in Osogbo on Wednesday.
According to the union leaders, during the ‘sit in’ strike, lecturers go to school but they do not teach the students. He explained that the strategy was adopted to prompt the implementation of the salary scale.
The ASUP chairman said the union held an emergency congress and started the strike since Monday.
Komolafe said that the case had been reported to the national executive of the ASUP and they had given their support to the local chapter.
The vice chairman said lecturers in the school would continue to go to school but would not teach until their demands on the implementation of CONTISS 15 were met.
He said, “The union (ASUP Ede) had an emergency where it was resolved that lecturers should embark on a ‘sit in’ industrial action over non-payment of arrears of shortfall in the January and February salaries which was occasioned by no inclusion of CONTISS 15.”
