German University in Cairo

The German University in Cairo (GUC) (Arabic: الجامعة الألمانية بالقاهرة‎), is a private, Egyptian/German University. The German University in Cairo (GUC) is an independent, apolitical and secular institution for higher education located in New Cairo, Egypt. The university provides German liberal education to the students from all socio-economic backgrounds in Egypt and other nations around the world contributing substantially towards Egypt’s intellectual and cultural life. The University offers German style learning programs at the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels, along with an extensive continuing education program. The university promotes European education, professional education, and lifelong learning. GUC is established in cooperation with the State Universities of Ulm and Stuttgart, under the patronage of The Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education, The Ministry of Science, Research and Arts, State of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and supported by The DAAD, The German Embassy in Cairo, The Arab/German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK), The Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Germany, The State University of Tübingen and The State University of Mannheim.



The German University in Cairo "GUC" is a private University founded on the 3rd of October 2003. University of Ulm and University of Stuttgart are the universities involved in name, the University of Mannheim and University of Tübingen joined as cooperation partners. Also the DAAD supported the project by providing funds as well as shareholders for investment purposes. The courses are based on German curriculums with 5% changes to suit the Egyptian ministry of higher education, with the Universities of Ulm and Stuttgart acting as advisors and figures. Over 6000 students were enrolled for the 2008-2009 academic year. The lecturers at the German University in Cairo are primarily Egyptians. They are supported by visiting German professors. The language of instruction is English. German (Deutsch) is also taught in order to satisfy the requirements of the Universities of Ulm and Stuttgart in Germany.
