Accord not party to Ajimobi’s planned impeachment

A former Oyo State Governor and National Leader of Accord Party, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, said members of his party in the Oyo State House of Assembly will not join those reportedly planning to impeach the state  Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

Ladoja announced that he would contest the governorship of the state in 2015 while speaking with newsmen in Ibadan on Sunday.

Ladoja, who was impeached as the governor in 2006 before he was later returned by the court the following year, said there was no political justification for removing Ajimobi with a few months to the end of his tenure.

He added that such move could result in social and political unrest in the state.

The former governor said, “I cannot understand the basis for anybody in the House suddenly waking up to nurse any impeachment move against Governor Ajimobi. In any case Accord is not a party to it.

“I cannot understand why they will wake up and say there is gross misconduct against a governor, who is on his way out. Let them publish it for people to see but as far as I am concerned, our party is not part of any purported plan to impeach governor Ajimobi.

“We have told Accord members in the House that we are not party to it and that they must distance themselves from it.

“As a matter of principle and reason, how many months does the governor have left in office? How many months do we have to the general elections? Anybody planning impeachment plan to cause insecurity and distract the governor.”
