Africa China Angry with Nigerians

Reggae artist, Chinagorom Onuoha, otherwise called African China, has expressed his annoyance with the Nigerian masses over what he termed as their inability to demand for quality music.

He said rather than encourage musicians who release songs that mirror the ills in the society, they continue to patronise mere party songs that lack depth.

African China said, ‘‘I have been silent because Nigerians have been so adamant to learn. I am tired of representing them. I continue to make songs that give the masses hope thereby denying myself of some privileges but I don’t get motivated by them. I know what I go through to stand with them. I am unhappy with the Nigerian masses.’’

The singer added that Nigerians should embrace songs that preach change in order for the ruling class to be responsible.

‘‘They should try to make the politicians accountable. I want them to continually request for songs that will make them see the need for change. There is a need for us to move from politricks to politics, ’’ he added.

African China, who said he released Anu-Gboko to condemn the spate of bombings and killings in the country, stated that he would not relent in serving as the advocate of the masses through songs.

He stated, ‘‘The message in Anu-Gboko which means Bushman is that those killing and bombing in Nigeria should stop. They must know that it is not good to take the life of a fellow human being under whatever reason. They should come out and state their demands in clear terms. Whoever kills a fellow human is a bushman. Such practice is against humanity.’’

The musician, who has released albums such as Crisis, Mr. President, London Fever and Return of the Legend among others, noted that he released the audio of Anu-Gboko last year while the video came out in June, 2014.
