The Student Union Government (SUG) will soon be established at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) following the inauguration of a 43-man constitutional drafting committee for the Students’ Representative by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rahamon Bello.
The membership of the committee were drawn from the staff and students of the institution.
Describing the inauguration of the committee as marking a turning point in students’ unionism in the school, the VC said the committee would provide a framework for a full blown students’ union in the university.
“Before the commencement of this process, the management had taken tours of similar institutions around the world with the hope of gaining understanding of how students organized themselves to contribute to the smooth running of academic activities of the universities visited,” he added.
Present at the inauguration ceremony were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research), Professor Babjide Alo with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Duro Oni amongst others.
