Emerald Energy Institute Admission into programmes for 2015/2016 Session

Emerald Energy Institute for Petroleum and Energy Economics, Policy and Strategic Studies, University of Port Harcourt, is an international collaborative Institute for graduate education in petroleum, energy economics, management & policy. Its vision is to educate, equip and engage professionals and corporate decision makers in the petroleum and energy sectors.



The Institute is inviting applications for its M.Sc Programme in Petroleum Economics, Management and Policy or M.Sc in Energy Economics, Management and Policy for the 2015/2016 session. It is also accepting applications for modular and flexible Ph.D. in Petroleum Economics in collaboration with Petroleum Engineering Department and African Centre of Excellence for Petroleum Research and Training, sponsored by World Bank.



Methods of Instruction and Objectives: The curriculum is delivered in modules by University faculty and industry experts from Nigeria and abroad. On completion of this programme, the graduates would amongst others, have acquired skills that are relevant for careers in petroleum and energy industries; in government ministries, departments and parastatals that are responsible for managing petroleum and energy resources; and in banking/financial institutions, and energy and petroleum policy consulting units, and the academia



Admission Requirements:Candidates must possess a minimum of Second Class (Upper Division) of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Engineering or Physical Sciences. Sponsored company staff and candidates with at least five (5) years experience in the petroleum and energy industries and a Second Class (Lower Division) Degree with a minimum CGPA of at least 3.00 (on a 5.00 scale) may also be considered. Lawyers with sufficient years of experience in the oil, gas, and power industry will be considered as well.



Programme Duration: The duration of the programme is6 quarters of full-time intensive study and 8 quarters of part-time intensive study for the M.Sc Degree Programme. The Ph.D program is hybrid and flexible.

It would require a minimum of 12 quarters of intensive course work subsequent to MS degree from reputable institutions with a minimum CGPA of 4.0. A waiver may be granted for a candidate with CGPA of at least 3.5 for engineering graduate applicants with at least five years of working experience in the oil and gas industry.



Award of Degree: Successful candidates at the end of the programme shall receive either the M.Sc degree in Petroleum Economics, Management and Policy or M.Sc degree in Energy Economics, Management and Policy of the University of Port Harcourt.

Ph.D Candidates shall be deemed successful in accordance to the University Senate stipulated requirements for the award of a Ph.D degree in Petroleum Economics

Application Fee:A non-refundable Application Fee of N20,000 (Twenty Thousand Naira) in certified bank draft made payable to the Emerald Energy Institute, UNIPORT. The completed Application Forms should be submitted with the bank draft at the Emerald Energy Institute office or be sent by courier service with a pre-paid FedEx self-addressed envelope for acknowledgement.

· Completed Application Forms must be returned to the Director, Emerald Energy Institute for Petroleum, Energy Economics, Policy and Strategic Studies, University of Port Harcourt, on or before Wednesday, 30th September, 2015

· Aptitude Test will hold on Friday 9th October, 2015

· Oral interview holds on Thursday 22nd October, 2015.
