Futo VC Advise Fresh Students To Shun Vices

The Federal University of Technology, Owerri held its 33rd Matriculation ceremony on February 20, 2015. The ceremony which marked formal admission of fresh men into the university attracted large turnout of parents, guardians and well wishers of the matriculating students. As with tradition in FUTO, the ceremony was preceded by a meeting of Parents and Management Forum at the convocation Arena of the University.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. C. C. Asiabaka advise the fresh students admitted to the institution for 2014/2015 academic session to shun vices capable of jeopardizing their studentship.

Prof. C. C. Asiabaka in his Matriculation address congratulated the fresh students for being fortunate and privileged to have been chosen out of over 14,000 that sought to be admitted into the University. He encouraged them for making the right choice by choosing FUTO which is the premier University of Technology in the Country noting that FUTO is a brand name that is highly sought by employers of labor. He advised them to shun anything that will tarnish or bring dishonor or disgrace to the University. The Vice-Chancellor however urged the fresh students to always abide by the mantra of the present Administration “Quest for Excellence”. Excellence means:

. Going far beyond the call of duty

. Doing more than others expect

. Striving and believing in oneself

. Maintaining the highest standards

. Looking after the smallest detail

. Going the extra mile

. Putting you very best in everything you do, excellence therefore, is not an act but a habit.

The Vice-Chancellor further described the fresh students as being fortunate to be admitted into the University at such a remarkable time in the history of the University when there are quantum leaps in infrastructural and academic transformation in view of several completed and ongoing project that are aimed at providing additional classrooms, laboratories, workshops and office spaces needed to enhance teaching, learning and research in the University. The ceremony was climaxed by the taking of Matriculation pledge/oat by the matriculating students.
