How to Initially Setup a Uniden HomePatrol Police Scanner

After you've purchased a Uniden HomePatrol, it's kind of nice to know how to set it up. This article will help introduce you to the items it will need to complete it's setup.

Steps

    1
    Purchase a Uniden HomePatrol from either the Uniden webpage or some other reputable marketplace online seller such as Amazon or eBay. Offline sellers won't purchase these to sell to their prospected buyers.

    Wait for the purchase to arrive at your doorstep or your maildrop area.

    Take your box inside and near your place where you'd like to set it up.

    Open the box, and unbox all the items, including the item and antenna, power cord, the holder/dock and most other parts. Some items they include you should need when you get to the step, is the USB cord to connect the scanner to the computer for programmer there along with any firmware updates to the device.

    Connect the antenna to the device. The placement of the antenna is located on the left-side of the device towards the top. Turn the antenna, so the antenna sticks upwards and not the initial sideways position.

    Turn the device over to the back.

    open the battery door.

    Place the batteries into the device.

    Replace the battery-door to the back of the device

    Position the device on a flat surface in an uncrowded room/corner where signals will tend to be good. If you don't receive much activity or the device picks up(later) no stations, move the device someplace else.

    Power the device on. The power button is at the top of the device. Hold it down for a few seconds.

    Recognize that this type of device is completely touch-screen active.

    Press the button on the bottom of the device to alert yourself to the need to install the firmware update that all devices need along with the software Uniden needs you to install which Uniden calls Sentinel.
        You might have to accept these menus several times with the button at the bottom.
        Don't ignore this firmware update. These are major fixes to problems when the device was first initialzed at the factory.

    Fill in the owner card on the device using the keypad that will come up. You can only fill in up to 6 lines of text.

    Allow the device to check for the local time from GPS satelites nearby(You don't need a GPS sensor at this point, but if you have a separate one, plug it in).
        You can also set the clock manually, by typing in the data on the next screen.
        Make sure the device is set to the correct timezone.

    Fill in the zipcode data that it requests.

    Accept the fact that the device will need a few moments to initialize and install the nearest frequencies to your device.

    Press the Accept button at the bottom of the device one more time.

    Wait for the device to fully program the device for nearby frequencies.

    Recognize some of the channels it programs into the device, that you don't want ot hear/scan/listen to.

    Understand the process for which you must remove these items. These options are in one of the menus at the top of the device.
