How to Make a Turk's Head

Make a Turk's Head
Have you ever wanted to make your own neckerchief slides and not have to buy one? Now you can see how easy it is to make your very own, and it won’t even cost you very much. Turks Heads can be made out of 3 ft. of nylon rope (para-cord), leather, or just about any other type of rope.

 Steps
  1. 1
Cut a strand about 3 feet long.
  2. 2
Start by holding your hand with your palm up with your thumb at the top sticking out away from you.

  3. 3
Then stick your rope down your thumb until you have 5 inches left, and take it between your middle and ring finger coming back around your index finger.

  4. 4
When you have that done, you will have to take your rope and go under the rope that your thumb is holding onto.

  5. 5
Now that you have that done, take your rope and go around your pinkie finger to the back of your hand and go to your middle and ring finger and pick up the strand that you first did when you went in between those fingers.

  6. 6
Finally you have reached the part when you won’t have your hands covered in rope.

Finally you have reached the part when you won’t have your hands covered in rope. You will take the rope that is still behind your hand and take it back around your index finger, but instead you will be going down through the strand that you first brought around your index finger.
  7. 7
Now you can take it off your hand very carefully and lay it on a table.

  8. 8
Take that same rope and take it through the middle and there is a small triangular hole that you go through and come back down and leave it there.

Now you have to stick two fingers in the center hole and begin to tighten it around your fingers.

  10. 10
When you are done tightening the rope around your fingers, you have to take the remaining one or two feet and follow the rope that will be right to the left of the rope you are working with and do exactly what it does.

If it goes over, you go over. If it goes under, you go under. And you do that until you get back to where you started from.
  11. 11
Now that you have reached where you started, follow it under one more time and let it come out completely.

  12. 12
You finally have two ends sticking out of the top and the bottom of your Turks Head and it is now time to cut off the tail ends just enough that they are just inside it, burn those ends, and then glue the ends into the inside of the Turks Head.

You can test if you want to, or you can just pull out your neckerchief for your scouting uniform and try it on, just put it on any regular handkerchief that you have.
